Lee Roy Selmon blends the advantages of a scholarship to football in his family with community service. The first family is his youngest of the nine children of Lucious and Jessie Selmon. The family lived on a farm at Eufala, Oklahoma. Another reason for his football career was that his father was the only of three brothers who played with Oklahoma. All three became All-America. Lucious Jr. Dewey & Lee Roy started for one season in 1973. Lee Roy is the winner of both Outland Awards and Lombardi Awards. He was the top lineman for all of the nation. Lee Roy won two championships, and 32-1-1 in his three seasons as the Oklahoma's starting linebacker. In 1975, he was awarded the third scholarship of his career and was named an National Football Foundation scholar-athlete. Selmon received a diploma as an educator. Lee Roy's fourth time of service included ten hours per week in volunteer work during the college. After graduation, he moved into Tampa and played nine seasons with the Buccaneers. He was an All-Pro for three occasions. After that, he began his professional career. In 1988, he was an Account Representative for Tampa's First Florida Bank and worked in these organizations: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute as a member of the Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. In 1982, the Junior Chamber of Commerce honored his name in 1982, as one of the top 10 youngsters from the United States. Lee Roy stood 6-2 in height and weighed 256 pounds when he was a student athlete. He was captain of the team in 1975. In 1993 he was appointed associate director of the University of South Florida. In 1993, the College Football Hall of Fame named the player as a member in the year 1998. GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994. Pro Football Hall of Fame In 1995. Parents, Lucious and Mary Selmon Jr. have been awarded the Distinguished American Award in 1989 from the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation. Henry Bellmon the Governor of Oklahoma presented the award.
