Lee Roy Selmon has a background that is a combination of family scholarships football and community service. Selmon is the youngest of children of Lucious Selmon and Jessie Selmon. They had him raised on the family farm near Eufala. Two football. He is among three brothers who played for Oklahoma. Three brothers were All-America. Lucious Jr. Dewey was one of the starters for the entire 1973 season. Lee Roy has won both the Outland Award as well as the Lombardi award as the top lineman in America. He was awarded two championships as well as 32-1-1 in his three seasons as Oklahoma's starter. In 1975, he received the third scholarship of his career and was named the National Football Foundation scholar-athlete. Selmon received a bachelor's degree from the University of California in Berkeley. Lee Roy was involved in volunteering for ten hours per week during his time at college. After college, he moved to Tampa and played for nine years for Tampa's Buccaneers. He was an All-Pro for three occasions. After that, he began his career. In 1988, as an account representative at First Florida Bank of Tampa, he worked with Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. In 1982 The Junior Chamber of Commerce recognized Lee Roy as being among 10 of the most notable young males. Lee Roy, a 6-2-inch higher and weighing in at more than 256 pounds when he played in the college level as an athlete, was captain of his team during the season of 1975. Lee Roy joined the University of South Florida in 1993 as an associate director of sports. He was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame by the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994, as well as The Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. The Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation gave its Distinguished American Award for 1989 to Lucious Selmon, Sr. Henry Bellmon is the Oklahoma governor who made this presentation.
